The World Pavilion in Steyl (Netherlands) is a cultural and educative experience center where schools, families and organisations learn more about different cultures through fun games, roleplaying and workshops. An impressive and educational experience! The World Pavilion asked Lagotronics Projects to help them create a contemporary experience about Ghana.
Main theme of the program is to look at other cultures in a different way. It’s mainly developed for elementary schools, but will also be open for other visitors of course. Guests will learn about the daily life in Ghana, its culture, religion and refugees. The educational program has three parts: a bus ride through Ghana, daily life in a typical Ghanaian village and the dangerous journey of a boat refugee.
Extraordinary experiences
The bus ride is an impressive experience: by replacing the windows of a real bus with monitors, which show moving images of an actual ride through Ghana, the whole experience is very realistic.
The village life is realized with the use of Virtual Reality. Visitors get to wear VR-glasses which show a 360º view of a real village in Ghana; they walk around freely and it feels as if they are actually walking around in a real Ghanaian village.
The third experience is a moving one: the dangerous journey of a boat refugee. The World Pavilion decided to add this sensitive topic to their program to show visitors the background of the refugees. What drove them to make this risky journey? Visitors get into a real refugee boat whilst wearing VR-glasses. With the use of Virtual Reality they will see what those people have to go through during their dangerous journey.
“Lagotronics Projects has been a great help in realising our dream”, says René Poels, chairman and initiator of the World Pavilion. “The experts from Lagotronics Projects have professionally transformed our ideas into a VR-experience”. We are very proud of the result and happy that we chose Lagotronics Projects to work with: a world player, close to home”.
René Poels, Chairman World Pavilion
“We feel honoured that we got to realise this experience. A project close to home, with an educational and social touch. This project shows what we’re capable of with Virtual Reality. Visitors will get to know the culture of Ghana in a playful, but still real life way.”
